Design a Bulldog!

We are still accepting submissions for the 2025 Bulldog Public Art Gallery!

Let’s get creative.

Our next public art project is planned for installation at the end of May 2025, and we are looking for artists to partner with!

We want to support local artists like you by featuring your creative designs in our Bulldog Gallery on Main Street in Irvington, New York.

The statues will be on display for the whole Summer!

This project is a great way to gain public recognition; artists will be promoted in both print and social media, at events, and on the streets.

Platforms will display your name and can have a QR code to your work or information (if you choose).

FAQs

  • Artists wishing to participate will create colored sketches of their designs for a fiberglass bulldog, approximately 28 inches tall, in a sitting position and mounted on a base. Some of our sponsors may be looking for designs that complement their businesses. We would love to support them with your original ideas, and to give you ultimate freedom to invent fun and inspiring designs. We require a color drawing/graphic design to be submitted for review before moving forward.

Completed designs (limited to 3 per artist) need to be submitted to the Bulldog Gallery Committee for the selection process. It is essential that all designs be submitted ASAP. Any designs submitted after the due date listed in the packet are at risk of not being included. Once your design has been approved by the committee, you will be notified if a sponsor has selected your design.

Up next, you’ll receive a blank Bulldog statue on which you will apply your design. Because Bulldogs will be displayed outdoors during the summer months, we recommend you use durable, weather-safe materials; we will provide you with information in Artists Tips & Tricks. Your bulldog art will be on display in Irvington during Spring and Summer. Finally, we will have a live auction of all statues in October. Artists will collect 25% of the auction proceeds, so you have an incentive to give us your best work!

  • 1) The committee will review all submission packages for inclusion in the project.

    2) Designs approved by the committee will be presented to the sponsors for consideration. The sponsor will make the final selection of the design and notify our committee.

    3) All artists will be informed whether or not their design has been selected by a sponsor.

    4) Artists who need funds for supplies or help with materials please let the committee know by email.

    5) Artists receive a 25% commission from the gross auction price only if the statue is completed and delivered by the return date stated in the packet. Only partial or zero commission will be paid for submissions after the due date (or modified due date as applicable), depending on how late the artwork is submitted.

  • Artists participating in the “Bulldog Gallery ” will be acknowledged in the following ways:

    1) The artist, title, and sponsor of each bulldog will be displayed on a plaque which will be mounted on the base of each bulldog.

    2) The artist, title, and sponsor of each bulldog will be listed in the “Bulldog Gallery” brochure/guide which will include a map of each bulldog in the Irvington area..

    3) The bulldog, along with its artist and sponsor, will be featured in both print and social media throughout the season.

  • Artists are encouraged to view other websites that provide information about similar projects that have taken place in other communities.

You must read the "Artist Protocols” and ensure that the entire statue is covered with paint or approved materials.

Your statue must be sprayed with a protective fixative spray before it is given back.

Statues received with missing paint, and scratches may need to be repaired, and this could impact your ability to collect the full auction proceeds.

  • Please carefully review our Artists Packet and send it back to us, completed, with the following information:

    • Artist Application, signed

    • Copyright Agreement, signed

    • Design Submission

All materials can be either submitted online, sent to bulldogcommittee@gmail.com, or dropped off by Irvington's village clerk-treasurer, Katie Bugna, at Village Hall, 85 Main Street, Irvington, NY 10533.

  • We’d love to hear from you. Please email us at bulldogcommittee@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you ASAP.
